Garden of the Gods Engagement Session with Chelsea & David
We did this Garden of the Gods engagement session at High Point Overlook and along some of the surrounding trails nearby. Its a great spot to get a view of the bigger rock formations in the main part of the park. It also offers some mountain views to the west and some interesting smaller rock formations. I met up with Chelsea & David in the late spring for this engagement session. They both had just moved to Colorado Springs for work and decided that they wanted to elope later in the year and do some engagement photos as well.
Navigating Rock Formations in the Park
Within Garden of the Gods Park some of the rocks you can scramble around on and others are off limits. The park clearly marks where to not climb unless you have a permit. The formations around the High Point Overlook are small enough that they allow for some scrambling without the need for a permit. I asked Chelsea and David if they would be up for getting on top of some of the formations. They navigated to the top like pros even with Chelsea in high heels. David kept a close eye on her to make sure she was safe. Everyone made it up and down in one piece and we were able to capture some fun photos in the process during this Garden of the Gods engagement session.
Timing and Crowds
The lighting around High Point Overlook during the afternoon a little bit before sunset is really beautiful. But it is a very popular spot and can get crowded. When we were there, we ran into a number of different people taking photos from a wedding party to kids who looked like they were going to prom. We got lucky and found one of the last remaining parking spots. The parking lot in that area isn’t very big. There are a few other spots down the road but it requires a bit of hike. If you’re planning on coming to this area for photos in the early evening, a little extra time would be helpful just in case it gets crowded.
Thanks Chelsea and David
Chelsea and David, thanks for entrusting me to capture these Garden of the Gods engagement photos for you two. Its such a beautiful spot and I’m glad we were able to explore it together. I hope this year was a good one for you with your engagement and elopement. It was such a pleasure to share in the celebration. I’m excited to share more photos of you two and your elopement later on.
leave some love:
