Picking Your Location - Keep It Simple and Meaningful

Find a Quiet Spot

More Location Questions

A Little Preparation Goes a Long Way.  If you’re bringing a photographer (like me!) along, setting up details ahead of time makes a huge difference. Even if you’re keeping things simple and private without a photographer, a little planning will help everything go much smoother.

There are endless ways to propose, but simple often wins. You’re already going to be nervous (in the best way!), so focus on what’s meaningful to you both.  Don’t overcomplicate it. Choose a spot with significance — maybe your favorite hike, the town where you had your first date, or a view you both love.

Tip! - If you’re meeting a photographer, choose a spot that’s close to the trailhead so you can easily find one another.

A little privacy makes a big difference. Coloradans love their trails, so total seclusion can be tricky — but you can almost always find a quiet corner.

When Aaron proposed to Teassa on top of Aspen Mountain, instead of popping the question near the crowded lodge, they walked just a few minutes down the trail. Suddenly it was peaceful. When they arrived it was just myself and about 4 other people enjoying the view.

Sometimes you just need to go a little bit further to find a more intimate space.

  • What will the weather be like?

  • Is the location accessible year-round?

  • Will you need to hike far to get there? — and is that okay for both of you?

  • What time of day would be best?

FAQ's for Colorado Proposals

Can you make Proposal Location Suggestions?
Absolutely! I'm happy to make suggestions on locations for your Colorado proposal after a quick phone consult with you. It helps me understand what you're envisioning for your proposal and gives me some guidance on which locations might be a good fit.

Some things we might talk about during our call would be what kind of scenery would you prefer, how far would you be willing to drive, would you be open to hiking and if so, how much?.

Do I need a Permit to Propose in Rocky Mountain National Park?
No you don't need a permit to do a proposal in Rocky Mountain National Park.  There are no restrictions for where you can propose there.  But be aware that during peak season they do require timed entry permits to enter into the park at certain times.  Also, depending on where you go its a good idea to check their events calendar. The Park rangers can share if there are weddings happening that day so that you can avoid them.

What are your favorite Colorado Proposal Ideas?
I love combining Colorado's wild and iconic scenery with an element of surprise. Whether you're visiting from out of town or live in Denver, there's so much to explore here. We can help you choose a place that fits with what your envisioning and include some personal touches to make it a special surprise.

What Happens if The Weather is Bad?
We always check the weather leading up to the proposal moment. And we can adjust the timing or day if we need to. As long as things still work for both of us, we strive to be as flexible as possible. That helps us pick a favorable window of weather. We also have umbrellas we can use and hand warmers for cold days.

Can You Help me Make it a Fun Surprise?
Yes! We'll work out a plan together. With some more information from you we can add some personal touches and make this moment unique and special. To give you some inspiration, here are some examples of fun things other couples have done:
  • Played a favorite song from a speaker along the trail before dropping to one knee
  •  Set up a picnic with a personalized letter and a charcuterie board
  •  Surprised her with a bottle of champagne
  •  Incorporated family members for a secret post proposal celebration

Can I Bring My Dog?
Yes, I love animals!  Know that if we bring a pet it limits some of the trails that we can go to.  But I'm always happy to incorporate them. I understand that they are part of your family and would love to include them in this moment for you.

If you do bring your dog along for the proposal, typically we'll do some portraits with them and some without. Also if you're able to bring some of their favorite treats with you, this will help encourage them to look at the camera for some of the photos.

How Do I Get My Partner to Dress Up Without Giving Away the Surprise?

The easiest way I've found to do this is to set up a nice dinner or brunch somewhere. Then mention you'd like to stop somewhere along the way to check out a beautiful view or go for a short walk before going to eat.  Here are some other proposal ideas to help with getting dressed up:

  • The Christmas Card Excuse - You can tell your partner that you'd like to take some selfies or photos for Christmas cards this year since you'll be a really pretty spot, and suggest dressing up for that.

  • The Portrait Session Excuse - We've had couples who know they are having a portrait session to get them dressed up and then propose during the session.  I really like this excuse when its given as a gift from someone else.  You could tell your partner that one of your family members gifted you a portrait session that way its less obvious

  • Hide a Change of Clothes in the Car - Bring dressier clothes that your partner can change into after the proposal moment.  In some instances, we've met up secretively to pickup up the clothes and then brought it in our car as photographers.  In other instances, I've had people hide the change of clothes in their own car somewhere.

Do Your Charge Any Travel or Misc Fees?
The price of the proposal varies depending on the location. Other than that some places require special permits, like the Denver Botanic Gardens, which requires a $50 single use photography permit for portraits done in the park. After a quick phone consultation I can put together a personalized quote for you.

• 60-90 minute photography session to include capturing the proposal and portraits afterwards

Nichole was amazing from the start for our surprise proposal. Nichole was extremely responsive and helpful.

I had not been to the area but had an idea of what I wanted. Nichole listened to what I had in mind, what my now wife’s interests were, and was spot on with locations.

Our photos turned out way better than we ever expected. We absolutely love them.
We would 10/10 recommend and use Nichole again.
