Couples Photography at Brainard Lake with Rachel and Tom
It was a pleasure to capture couples photography of Rachel and Tom during their trip out to Colorado. They both love to travel and often hire a photographer at some point during their trip to help capture the adventure. Rachel shared with me that they do this because of a few reasons. One it lets them relax more, knowing they’ll come away from the trip with some quality images while not having to constantly be taking photos from their phone. Two that helps them be in the moment of the trip more by taking away documenting it. And third they like helping small local businesses in the area that they travel to. I love this thought!
Couples Photography in the Mountains
We decided to meet at Brainard Lake just outside of Boulder for their couples photography session. Brainard Lake is a beautiful alpine lake surrounded by large rugged mountains which makes for some beautiful scenery. Tom and Rachel happily climbed around on some rocks and hiked along the lake shore with me. We lucked out with some beautiful weather that day in the mountains and even got some of the last of the fall colors in the area. The Colorado mountains are such a unique background. I’m glad Rachel and Tom were able to take home a piece of that mountain scenery by getting together for some portraits.
The Best Season for Capturing Couples Photography at Brainard Lake
Brainard Lake has about a 4 month window of time when the roads are clear and the weather is nice. The main road that goes to the parking lot near Brainard Lake closes during the winter due to the snow. It typically stays closed till late June. The area is still super pretty in the winter but takes more work to access it. From mid October to late June you can snow shoe, hike or cross country ski into the area which is about 4 miles round trip.
During the months of July-August, the road is open and you can park directly near the lake and walk just steps over to the shore. It gets busy during this time. Going during the week can help if you’re looking for less crowds. The road also stays open during September and part of October depending on the weather. Although it can be a little bit cooler in the fall, usually there are still nice days in the midst of the season. Fall colors start to change around this time. Which makes the drive up to the lake gorgeous with colors changing all along the Peak to Peak highway. Check out more info about Brainard Lake here.
