It was a pleasure to be the adventure elopement photographer for Brad and Anna last fall at St Mary’s Glacier. Brad and Anna traveled to Colorado from Wisconsin for their elopement. They wanted to celebrate their marriage by doing a hike in a beautiful mountain location. When they reached out to me, we talked about a number of different options and then we finally decided on St Mary’s Glacier. They wanted both photography and videography for their elopement and so I partnered with Chris of Insight Media Productions. They really wanted some drone coverage and St Mary’s was one of the mountain locations where that was allowed.

Eloping at St Mary’s Glacier in Colorado

The hike up to St Mary’s is about a mile. Its short but rocky and steep. Brad and Anna decided that would be a good fit for their day. We worked together to set up a plan for the afternoon. We decided on hiking up to the lake shore and doing their vows along the water. Then we picked out a clearing in the trees as the location for their first dance and champagne toast. We also wandered around the lake for more portraits before and after their vow ceremony.

St Mary’s Glacier can get really crowded because its a short hike to a very scenic alpine lake. But the trails spread out once you get to the top, so its possible to find a quieter corner for an elopement. I’ve also asked people nicely in the past if we could use a certain space and usually people are happy to help for a couple getting married.

Hiking with an Adventure Elopement Photographer

Both Brad and Anna hiked up this trail like a pro. They are both pretty active and the elevation didn’t get to them at all. Chris and I carried up all our gear for photography and video, while Brad and Anna came right along with us in their wedding dress and suit. Anna wore tennis shoes under her dress which made for a comfy walk. And Brad brought a pair of hiking boots along with his dress shoes to make it an easy hiking experience.

As we hiked up, we stopped along the way to capture some photos and video footage. I’ve found as an adventure elopement photographer that with hiking and taking photos at the same time, we usually cover about a mile in 40-60 minutes. Both Brad and Anna were so excited to elope in Colorado. They happily stopped in places Chris and I suggested along the way. Check out the video Chris created for Brad and Anna below.

Thanks Brad and Anna

Brad and Anna, thanks so much for choosing us to capture your elopement. It was so fun to adventure around with you two and be your elopement photographer and videographer. The love you have for each other was so beautiful to witness and help celebrate. Thanks also for braving the wind and cold. It was a little bit chilly but it worked out well. You two are adorable and I’m so glad you had a wonderful time! Sending love and well wishes!!
