An Intimate Chapel on the Rock Wedding at Camp St. Malo

Erin and Chip chose an intimate Chapel on the Rock wedding in Allenspark, Colorado, surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery and their closest family members. With Longs Peak towering behind the historic stone chapel, their ceremony was deeply meaningful, timeless, and beautifully simple.

A Chapel on the Rock Wedding in Allenspark, Colorado

Erin and Chip were married at the iconic Chapel on the Rock, also known as Camp St. Malo, a small historic Catholic church perched on top of a massive stone formation in Allenspark, Colorado. Built entirely of stone and set directly in front of Longs Peak, this chapel is one of the most breathtaking and unique ceremony locations in the Colorado mountains.

They gathered with a small group of about 13 guests, mostly immediate family, creating an intimate and reverent atmosphere that perfectly suited the space and their ceremony.

A Love Story Years in the Making

Erin and Chip’s story goes way back. They first met in sixth grade and grew up together in Georgia before eventually starting to date. After Chip finished vet school, they made the move to Colorado, where the mountains became part of their everyday life—and eventually, their wedding story too.

With family traveling in from out of town, everyone stayed nearby in Boulder, just a short and scenic drive from Allenspark and the chapel.

An Intimate Catholic Ceremony at Camp St. Malo

Following their intimate Chapel on the Rock wedding ceremony, Erin and Chip chose to enjoy a simple dinner together, keeping the focus of the day on the ceremony itself and time with family. For photography, their priorities were clear: documenting the ceremony inside the chapel, portraits with loved ones, and romantic photos of the two of them surrounded by mountain scenery.

After the ceremony, we spent time photographing around the chapel grounds before heading into Rocky Mountain National Park for additional portraits.

Portraits in Rocky Mountain National Park

I scouted a quiet area on the Wild Basin side of Rocky Mountain National Park ahead of time to find a location that felt peaceful and uncrowded. We found a lightly traveled trail that led to a beautiful meadow and creek, with rolling mountain views—an ideal setting for intimate portraits that reflected the calm, natural feel of the day.

This combination of a sacred ceremony space and Colorado’s natural beauty made their wedding day truly special.

Why Chapel on the Rock Is Perfect for a Small Wedding or Elopement

The Chapel on the Rock is a small and intimate space making it perfect for a small wedding or elopement. Although the Chapel is small, Camp St Malo does also offer space in a separate building for brides to get ready just a short walk from the ceremony location. It is a Catholic Church and the wedding package rental for the property does not come with an officiant. Click here to learn more about having your wedding at Camp St Malo.
