Elopement Reception Ideas in Colorado
Here are some elopement reception ideas to help as you’re planning your celebration. You could be doing a small reception after your elopement with an intimate group of family and friends. Or a larger reception gathering later on at a different date. Either way, here are some ideas from some of my past brides who put a fun and creative twist on their celebrations. Happy planning! I hope this give you some inspiration.
Food Ideas for an Elopement Reception
There’s a lot of different ways you could go here, but if you want to keep things a little more simple, here are some thoughts. Hire a food truck caterer. Food trucks have become increasing popular and have some delicious options. This is a great way to bring food to a place that doesn’t have a kitchen set up for caterers to use. Check out suggestions on The Knot for what they rank as some of their best Food Truck Caterers around Denver.
Do a spread of appetizers instead of an entire meal, like a charcuterie board or a cheese board. You could also pair this with some simple desserts if you want something sweet as well. Or if you’re doing a meal with a small group, hire a private chef. If you’re staying at an airbnb or somewhere with a kitchen, a private chef can be a delicious way to have a small an elegant dinner prepared for you.
Bring in Some Live Music or Art
Live music can give the reception a wonderful atmosphere. Recently I had a couple invite the 5280 String Quartet to come play during their celebration in Longmont, Colorado. I’ve also had couples hire a harpist to play as background music during their reception. Having a harpist is very unique and really pretty to listen to. During that event, the harpist even took some requests for some silly songs from the group, which was fun to hear their interpretation of the music.
Or hire a live painter. Live Painting is when you have someone come in to paint the scene of your celebration while the event is going on. I’ve seen couples do this for their wedding ceremony and/or reception. This can be a really unique gift to yourselves and entertaining to see their process and how the painting is created.
Elopement Reception Ideas – Games
Play some games with your guests. Lawn games can be popular and easy for people to jump into. I’ve seen cornhole boards, giant towers of Jenga, tic tac toe, and shuffle board games. I think my favorite was a lawn game of Scrabble. The couple started the game off with both their names and then let the guests fill in the rest. They included letters for words that described them or were part of some of their favorite things.
Another cute idea is doing a bingo game with family member names to encourage guests to meet and interact with family members they haven’t met before. Its a great way to have an ice breaker and spark some conversation between people in a small group.
