Colorado Winter Proposal with Brandon & Ashley in Winter Park
Brandon wanted to capture his Colorado winter proposal with Ashley while on a trip to Winter Park. They came out to Colorado from Alabama and wanted somewhere scenic with mountain views close to where they were staying. The trip coincided around Brandon’s birthday. So we decided to do the proposal on his actual birthday because we thought that might make it more of a surprise to Ashley. For locations, we looked at some different options including the Gondola at Winter Park Resort and some nearby trails. Ultimately we decided to meet along the Fraser River Trail.
Planning a Colorado Winter Proposal
When I plan a proposal like this with a couple I always do a little location scouting beforehand. Its especially important for a Colorado winter proposal, because the conditions can change drastically from day to day. Depending on how much snow we get, trails can become harder to access. The Fraser River Trail is a long trail that follows the river through and around town. We picked a section of it that had an easily accessible parking area and views of the mountains that weren’t obstructed by the surrounding buildings. The trail was snowy but it wasn’t very deep and provided a good excuse to go for a short walk through town on Brandon’s birthday. Then we decided to do the actual proposal on a small bridge that went over the Fraser River.
Things to Keep in Mind for Colorado Winter Portraits
It can get cold here in the winter, especially at high elevations in the mountains. I always encourage my clients to bring warm layers. Brandon and Ashley brought warm jackets and sweaters. Remember to bring more than what you think you might need, like gloves, hats, base layers etc. One of the keys to great portraits is being comfortable. Its much easier to capture natural and joyful expressions when your comfortable. If you’re super cold, its harder to be in the moment and have fun. And if you bring layers, we can always set some of the bulkier things aside for part of the session. I’d rather have those things in case you want them, instead of wanting them and not having them.
Thanks Brandon & Ashley
Brandon and Ashley, thank you entrusting me to capture your Colorado winter proposal. It was a pleasure to meet you two, learn a little more about you, and take photographs to celebrate your engagement! I hope you two had a wonderful trip and are doing well!!
