Learn More about Nichole and her visit to Oahu, Hawaii
Thanks for stopping in to learn a little more about me. I just want to share more about my life so you all can get to know me better. I grew up in Southern California but my family is all over the place. I have cousins and aunts in Georgia and Northern California. As well as siblings in Southern California and Hawaii.
My sister went to Hawaii for a job many years ago and ended up meeting her husband there. Since then, its been a fun place to visit family on Oahu. A few years ago, I went out there with my mom because my sister was having a baby shower. We went for about a week to celebrate with her and also do some exploring. While my sister was working my mom and I went and found some fun hikes around the island.
Doing the Lanikai Pillbox Hike
The Lanikai Pillbox trail head is about 40 minutes from Waikiki. It starts in the town of Lanikai, which is on the East side of the island a little north of Honolulu. The trail follows a ridge that overlooks the coast line. It’s called the pillbox hike because scattered along the ridgeline are old WW2 concrete bunkers. They were built to help defend and watch for enemy activity. Now they offer a place to sit and check out the view after a rewarding hike. The hike is a little bit steep but getting up there is well worth it.
Swimming with Dophins
This has to be one of the coolest experiences of my life! I rented a water housing for my camera during this trip. If you don’t know what that is, its like a giant plastic case that you put around your camera in order to keep it dry underwater. This was the first time I’ve ever taken my DSLR under water. I thought it might be fun to capture some wildlife and do some experimenting with it in the ocean while I was there.
I’m so glad I did! We went swimming one morning in one of the bays. And good thing I brought the camera with me because a school of dolphins swam right beneath our feet while we were out there. I was able to capture just a few photos of them as they swam past us. It was a large school of about 20 dolphins with a couple baby dolphins too. We floated at the top of the bay and watched them quietly as they swam past us. Its was amazing!
Celebrating with Family
It was super fun to celebrate with my sister and my mom during my sister’s baby shower too. My mom lives in Southern California so sometimes its hard for us girls to get together being in 3 different states. I really appreciate the time we do have with each other. This trip was especially fun because we got to celebrate a new member of our family coming into the world. And we also got to do some exploring, hiking and swimming in a beautiful place!
These are some of my favorite images from that trip. Thanks for reading and learning a little more about me!
