Aspen Mountain Proposal Story – Weston & Kate

Weston proposed to Kate on the top of Aspen Mountain during the spring, using the sweeping mountain views as a backdrop for their proposal. They had been planning a trip to Aspen for a little while.  Weston thought it would be the perfect time to pop the question.

Misc Notes: Gondola sightseeing tickets are required

Weston wanted a location with minimal hiking and a way to incorporate a post-proposal surprise with family members at The Hotel Jerome. Aspen Mountain was a good fit for all those things.

During the winter, you can ride the Aspen Mountain Gondola without a ski pass by purchasing a sightseeing ticket. At the top, there are several beautiful spots with panoramic views—perfect for a Colorado mountain proposal. Since Weston didn’t want to walk far, we chose a viewpoint close to the gondola exit.

The trade-off was less privacy, but he and Kate were totally fine with that. They waited for a moment when the area cleared out and then asked me to take a photo of them.  That was my cue to be ready to capture the proposal.  I took a photo with Weston’s phone and then he dropped to one knee. I tucked his phone in my pocked and then switched to my main cameras and captured the whole moment.

The top of Aspen mountain has 360 degree mountain views!

After their proposal, we explored a few nearby trails for some portraits before heading back down the mountain. I took the gondola first so I could get ahead of them for the second surprise of the day—family waiting at the historic Hotel Jerome in downtown Aspen. Kate was completely shocked (in the best way) when she arrived outside of the hotel and saw everyone there. It was such a meaningful way to wrap up their proposal experience.

Weston & Kate — thank you for trusting me to photograph your Aspen Mountain proposal. It was a gorgeous spring day in Colorado, and I loved documenting these memories for you both. Much love to you two!
